Who we are
Type Write Now is operated from Tennessee, United States. For any question or request about your data, email hello@typewritenow.com.
What we store
The demo on the front page. One sheet, to show you what the typing feels like. It saves nothing and sends nothing, and forgets it when you close the tab.
With an account. The desk needs one, because your writing is kept for you and waiting on any machine you sign in on. We hold:
- Your email address, for signing in, password resets, and any letters you have asked for.
- Your password, hashed with bcrypt. Neither we nor anyone who obtained the database can read it.
- The name you chose.
- Your documents, stored as plain markdown.
- Your record: minutes, words, days, streak, exercises completed, settings.
- What you have earned and claimed: which typewriters, authors, papers and typefaces, and when.
- The dates on which writing reached our servers, and how much. The dates and the count, not the writing.
- If you subscribe, a Stripe customer identifier and your subscription status. We never receive your card details.
The database is hosted by Supabase on Amazon Web Services in the eastern United States. If you are in the UK or EU, your data is transferred to the United States under the standard contractual clauses our processors operate under.
How we measure the product
We record a small set of events, so we can tell whether the thing works: that an account was made, that a trial started or ended, that a typewriter was earned or claimed, that an upgrade was offered and taken or dismissed, that a subscription began or was cancelled.
Each event carries numbers and labels only. How long your streak is, how many words you have written in total, how many days since you signed up, which plan you are on, and which of those moments it was. No event carries a line of your writing, or the title of a document, or anything you typed. The database refuses to store one that tries: that rule is a constraint on the table, not a promise in a policy.
It is our own database on our own servers. None of it is sent anywhere else and no other company can see it. Deleting your account deletes it with everything else.
What we do not do
We don’t use cookies or third party tracking services. We don’t sell your data; we don’t advertise, and we don’t share your information.
We don’t read what you write. It is not reviewed by staff, not analyzed to improve the product, and not used to train AI models.
Storage on your device
The app keeps its data in your browser's local storage: your documents, your record, your settings, and a session token if you are signed in. All of it is required for the app to function.
You can clear it from your browser settings, or from Settings in the app.
Who else is involved
Only the services that run the product. None is an advertiser.
| Who | Purpose | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and server functions | Everything in your account, including your documents |
| Netlify | Serving the site | Server logs, including your IP address |
| Stripe | Payments | Your card and billing details, which we never see |
| Resend | Sending email | Your email address and the message |
| Google Fonts | Typefaces | Your IP address when fonts load |
We send four things: a welcome message with a confirmation link, password resets, notices about your subscription, and the daily reminder if you turn it on. Reminders carry an unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and you can switch them off in Settings. We send no marketing.
How long we keep it
Your account and writing are kept while the account exists. If you ask us to delete them, we do so within 30 days, and remove them from backups within 30 days after that. Deleting an account takes everything in one go: your documents, your record, what you earned and claimed, and every usage event we ever recorded about you. Payment records are kept for seven years, as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a portable format. Under UK and EU law you may also object to or restrict processing, and complain to your data protection authority. In California you have equivalent rights under the CCPA. We do not sell or share personal information as that law defines it.
Two of these you can do yourself. Your writing exports as plain text or Markdown on any plan, and as Word, PDF or ePub on a paid one, and everything on the device clears from Settings. For anything else, email hello@typewritenow.com.
We process your data because we need it to provide the service you asked for. The daily letter relies on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Children
Type Write Now is not intended for children under 13, or under 16 in the EU and UK without a parent's consent. We do not knowingly collect their data. Email us if you believe a child has created an account and we will remove it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS only. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Database access is restricted per account, so one writer's session cannot reach another's work. If a breach affects your data, we will notify you and the relevant authority within 72 hours.
Changes
If this notice changes materially, we update the date above and email account holders before it takes effect.
